American Solera Is Coming Home to 18th Street

American Solera is coming home to 18th Street.

Ten years after Chase and Erica Healey opened the brewery — and after closing the taproom that made 18th and Boston a beer destination — American Solera is rehabbing the former Super 11 convenience store at 129 E. 18th St., just down the street from its old SoBo spot.

“It's just always been on our radar to get back into the neighborhood,” Chase Healey says. “It's just the right place at the right time.”

The Healeys celebrated American Solera's 10th anniversary in August. The brewery's first home was an industrial stretch of town near Chandler Park; when Oklahoma law changed to allow breweries to sell directly to the public, Chase moved the operation closer to downtown. In 2019 the brewery landed in its much larger space at 1702 E. Sixth St., alongside Marshall Brewing Co. and Cabin Boys.

“To me, a lot of the growth in our brand and what we're doing really has to do with just being near people, being part of the community and being a little closer to it,” he says, adding that the neighborhood's momentum feels bigger than it's ever been.

The new SoBo location will carry a more functional production area, including equipment for piloting brews — which opens the door to small-batch beers formulated specifically for this district. “Really batches for the neighborhood,” Chase says. “Beers that we'll be brewing that you may only find there.”

He is even considering handing some of those decisions to the neighbors. “Let's brew something,” Chase says. “Come on by. This day we'll be brewing a batch of beer and let's all decide what it is, because we can make anything.”

So consider this the district's official nudge: a SoBo beer on that taplist sounds pretty good to us. Watch for the taproom to open this fall at 129 E. 18th St.
